picture-2The single which marks Eminem’s comeback has hit the airwaves, iTunes and TV with a music video. The track was officially released on April 7th. The production is handled by Dr. Dre who is expected to do the majority of Eminem’s Relapse album. The track is currently ranked 3rd on iTunes’ top 10 singles list. Relapse is expected to be released on May 15th.

Yet another unauthorized leak to the airwaves have struck. This time, it’s DJ Envy who leaked the apparent Dre track on a New York radio station. The unfinished, unmastered “Topless” track starts with T.I. and a reference to the Doc. “It’s the D.R.,” Tip raps. “Made the West side worldwide, no PR/ Gangsta-rap god, I’m the end all, be all/ California love from the Bloods to the C-Dogs.” At this time, it is unknown which album the track will end up on, if any.

Crack a Bottle Single Album Cover“Crack a Bottle” by Eminem featuring Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, is the first single to be released for Eminem’s Relapse album. It has jumped 77 places to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, setting a new first-week record for download sales. The single sets a new sales record by selling 418,000 downloads, surpassing the prior record of 335,000 downloads from last October’s single by TI & Rihanna “Live Your Life”.

In a recent interview with Nas, he revealed that he has recorded a track with Dr. Dre for Detox. He had this to say about it;
“I did a joint. I think it’s crazy,” Nas says of working with Dre. “He’s someone I’d love to do a whole album with one day. He’s incredible. I think he’s the best producer of all time.”

From Busta Rhymes 8th Studio album “Back On My B.S.” comes the first track to become available, called “Decisions”. A star studded line-up join Busta on the track including Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, Common and John Legend. The track is produced by Dr. Dre which marks the 4th track either being released or leaked in 2009 by Dre. This is widely unexpected because of the lack of productions that we saw in 2008 where a total of 1 track was released.

The album is due in stores March 24th, 2009.

At the annual CES confrence in Las Vegas, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine sit down and talk about the business, music and technology that makes “Beats by Dr. Dre”

A track that featured Bishop Lamont, 50 Cent & a hook by R. Kelly has been leaked on the internet. The track could be the first listen to an album 10 years in the making, Detox.  Interscope and Dr. Dre have not commented on the leak but sources close to Dre said that he is angry that the track leaked so early mainly because it’s not mixed and mastered.

The track doesn’t exactly have a signature Dre sound to it, and is not what you would expected to hear.  The track doesn’t have a vibe of a West Coast or a gangster rap sound. I come away after listening to it somewhat disappointed. I take it as a solid beat, that has a hint of R&B but it certainly doesn’t make the statement I was hoping for from the first potential Detox track.

This marks the third Dr. Dre produced track to hit the web in the past three days.

[UPDATE, 1/13/09]

In an interview with 50 Cent yesterday, the rapper says that the track that was leaked was recorded over 2 years ago. I’d assume that the track won’t be a part of Detox with the leak coming so far in advance of the album.

A few noteworthy things about the tracklisting.

- Dr. Dre is producing and is featured lyricly in “Ready for War”

- Dr. Dre is producing a total of 4 tracks.

-Eminem is producing 2 tracks and is featured in 1.

-Nate Dogg is featured in track 5 “Here for a Reason”, which marks his first appearance on an album since he had 2 strokes in 2008. Akon somehow tried to replace him as the new hook master, but I’m sure Nate will come back with a vengence.

“Before I Self Destruct” (the movie) which is directed, produced and stars 50 Cent will be released alongside 50′s fourth studio album on December 9th.  Although none of the tracks on the album will be featured in the movie, 50 says that the movie is inspired by the music on the album. “Then Interscope would automatically have the rights to it, when they had absolutely no ownership of the actual material,” “I kept the music up to standards,” says 50. “I worked with it until it was right.”

The film promises to show urban life in a new way. “When [movies] portray certain lifestyles they don’t show cause and effect,” he says. “But I showed characters under pressure in scenarios where they felt like there were no other options, even though there were.” He adds, “There are always options. People just usually start to see them while being incarcerated — for not seeing them in the first place.”

50 Cent’s final solo release under contract with Shady/Aftermath is promised to be on December 9th. The album is 2 years in the making and was supposed to be release in 2007, however, he decided to release “Curtis” instead. This could bring a SECOND Kanye West vs. 50 Cent album battle as Kanye West’s “808′s and Heartbreak” is due just one week later on December 16th. Album release dates can change very easily and we may see delays in both albums, but pretty interesting nonetheless. “I guarantee this will be 50′s favorite album of mine,” West wrote today on his blog, “This will be gangster’s album of the year.”

As exciting as it was last fall to see 50 and Kanye go head to head, we’ll have to wait for a different time to see another chart battle. “808′s and Heartbreaks” is pushed up a month.

“I changed my album to November something, ’cause I finished the album and I felt like it, I want y’all to hear it as soon as possible”

UPDATE (10/6): The albums official release date is now November 25th

A four year drought since Eminem’s last album “Encore” hit the shelves, we are getting closer to an actual release date. Tentatively titles “King Mathers”, Eminem says it will be out close to the same time as Dr. Dre’s much anticipated “Detox”.

“I’m concentrating on my own stuff right now, just banging out tracks,” Em said during a recent appearance on his Sirius satellite radio station, Shade 45. “The more I keep producing, the better it seems I get”

After only a single album on Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label, Busta Rhymes will be releasing his next album “B.O.M.B.” on December 9th, his publicist confirms. This is shaping up to be a very busy month in the rap world as we’ve seen 50 Cent confirm his next album, “Before I Self Destruct”, also on December 9th, Eminem’s 5th studio album possibly in December, and Kanye West’s just weeks before that. And of course we must consider the always unanswered question of when Detox will arrive in stores.

A scary situation for west coast legend Nate Dogg, has left him on life support. A family member tells E! News that as of just a few days ago,  Nate was on life support in a Pomona hospital with a feeding tube in his mouth. “He has suffered another stroke from his bad eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle, all we can do now is pray for him.” says Nate’s cousin Lil’ Half Dead.

Nate was almost fully recovered from his previous stroke and was expected to fully recover from that. More news as it becomes available.

The latest single and music video from Ice Cube’s Raw Footage album, which was released last month, is “Why Me?” featuring Musiq Soulchild. The video premiered on BET last night.

New single “Big Baller” was released yesterday. It features Glasses Malone & Birdman. The single will be on Mack 10′s next album titled “White Soft”. The release day of the album still remains to be seen.

After it debuted at #2 on the Billboard chart, selling 239,000 albums, L.A.X drops to #10 after four weeks on the charts. Currently, the album sold about 418,000 copies in the United States and 516,000 worldwide.

Wikipedia:

The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200, with 238,382 copies sold, just behind Alternative metal band Slipknot’s All Hope Is Gone. At first it looked like LAX had debuted ahead of All Hope Is Gone by 13 copies, with such a close difference, Slipknot’s labels Warner Music Group and Roadrunner Records asked for a SoundScan recount, a historic first. Nielsen proceded to the recount, which placed LAX at No.2 with 238,382 copies, and Slipknot in first position with 239,516 copies scanned, a margin of 1,134 copies. Billboard then immediately proceded to the corrections.

The track was released over the weekend from his website.  During the last minute of the track, 50 just talks, telling the listener he’s in Detroit working on the album with Eminem and Dr. Dre.  (Source: MTV News)

After 50 Cent releases “Before I Self Destruct”, with a slated December 9th release, he says he’ll take his time with all of his future projects. This will be a better fit for him as I always root for quality over quantity.

“The luxury that Eminem and Dr. Dre have now, I’ll soon have. I’ll only be putting out music when I have a masterpiece ready… those guys are ready to put out their masterpieces very soon. Eminem’s album is going to blow people away… Like him, I’ll only be coming back when people miss me.”

“Let it Fly” the first single of Trick Trick’s album “The Villain” has hit iTunes today. The track features Ice Cube & Lil’ Jon. The production is also handled by Lil’ Jon.

Trick Trick, a Detroit rapper, will have his album released in 2008 and according to an unsourced article in Wikipedia, some of the production of the album will be handled by Dr. Dre & Eminem. Updates to the validity of the article as it becomes available.

The Game’s album “L.A.X.” dropped from #10 to #14 on the The Billboard 200 chart after 5 weeks of being released.

Ice’s Cube’s album “Raw Footage” dropped from #56 to #83 after 6 weeks of being released. Ice Cube’s album peaked at #6 on its opening week.

Johnny “J” Jackson, the producer that brought you “How Do U Want It” and “All About U” by Tupac, died over the weekend at age 39 in an apparent suicide. Jackson was charged with a DWI, and a Los Angeles County Jail spokesperson says that he jumped to his death from an upper level of the jail.

“When I talked to him, he told me he sold over 100 million records, … In my opinion, he needs to be put up there on legendary status with a Quincy Jones or Dr. Dre, because nobody knew he sold that many records. He was more of a low-key guy. He didn’t go out there flashing his money, but when you go to his studio, you’d see 100 ‘Pac plaques. You’d be like, ‘Man, you did all of these records?’ “

-King Tech

J did an interview with Tech on “The Wake Up Show” a few months ago, right before he was put in jail. Jackson said that he had around 30 Tupac records in his vaults that were unreleased and that he was part owner of all of ‘Pac’s recordings.

“We did six or seven a day, Depending on how the Hennessy was going, we turned it out.”

According to Vibe magazine’s fans, Eminem was crowned the globe’s top MC in a tournament-style contest.

In a contest on the magazine’s Web site, 64 of today’s top rappers — from MTV News’ reigning “Hottest MC in the Game” Kanye West to Rick Ross, Nas and T.I. — were given brackets, similar to NCAA basketball teams during March Madness. Fans began voting on head-to-head matchups in July, with MCs gradually being eliminated until Marshall Mathers was tapped as the ultimate victor this month, beating out Brooklyn lyric guru Jay-Z. Slim Shady received 69 percent of the votes in the finals. The magazine said more than 920,000 votes were cast.

“It’s obviously an honor to have won the fans’ support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive,” Em said in a statement released Tuesday (October 7). “I don’t think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best, though. Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since Vibe‘s offering the distinction, hell yeah, I’ll accept!”

“Vibe is thrilled we could put the debate about the Best Rapper Alive in the hands of the fans,” the mag’s music editor, Sean Fennessey, said. “Eminem isn’t just one of the most successful MCs of all time, he’s also one of the most beloved. The proof is in the voting.”

Vibe will be rolling out Eminem’s win in their November 2008 issue

The win comes after several years of near-silence from Eminem. Most of his public speaking has been done on his satellite radio station Shade 45 during brief, lighthearted interviews. Eminem appeared on the show a couple of weeks ago, telling listeners he’s been focusing on his own material. During a press run for the movie “Righteous Kill,” Em’s most well-known signee, 50 Cent, said he was in Em’s Detroit home studio working on tracks for his next album Before I Self Destruct. Dr. Dre was also revealed to be working with the two. 50′s album is slated for release on December 9; no release date or title has been announced for Eminem’s next project.

Get Up is 50 Cent’s first single off Before I Self Destruct! The production for the song is handled by Scott Storch, who provided other tracks for 50 such as Just a Lil’ Bit and Candy Shop. A solid first single which leaves me excited to see what else the album has in store for us.

Often times an artist promises a release date for an album, and the promise is broken, but the one true event that can confirm to fans that an album is within sight is a new single being released. This leaves me with confidence that Before I Self Destruct will be released in December as promised.

A statement by 50 Cent confirms that multiple tracks off the album will be produced by Dr. Dre.

“Dre sent over a bunch of beats, and we’re just going through them all, picking out who wants what. We already finished one joint and just started vocals on another. It’s gonna blow you away, I guarantee.”

While 50 is in the lab recording, he’s also contemplating a major outing. We was slated to do a 52-date tour, but our schedule got crazy, So I guess on Self Destruct, we should be doing a big tour. The album and movie are scheduled to be released on December 9th.

“Nobody gets to say this, I’m gonna snitch. The man is getting piano lessons from Burt Bacharach and he’s reinterpreting Frederic Chopin symphony stuff. It’s crazy, he’s lost his mind. From Aftermath Music:

50 Cent exploded onto the music scene with his blockbuster debut Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. Now he’s set to deliver his fourth major label album, Before I Self Destruct (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope), on December 9, 2008.

For the explosive Before I Self Destruct, 50 Cent returned to working closely with Dr. Dre and Eminem as he did on his first album. But Before I Self Destruct is more than an album. The package also includes a DVD with an original, gritty, feature-length movie he wrote, directed and starred in. 50 Cent proves with Before I Self Destruct that no one on the hip-hop scene is more aggressive about putting the street on stage.

With Dr. Dre and Eminem each producing and guesting on tracks, and led by the club-friendly first single, “Get Up,” produced by Scott Storch, Before I Self Destruct is darker and harder than last year’s Curtis. 50 Cent wrote much of the album while he, as Curtis Jackson, was also penning the 90-minute film of the same name that would be his directorial debut.

The film Before I Self Destruct is a coming of age story about an inner city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, he finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence (played by Jackson) is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother.

“My film captures the harsh realities that reflect so many communities today. There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city,” states 50 Cent. “I made the film for both groups.”

Eminem and publishing house Orion Books are set to release a new book featuring never before seen photos, journal notes, hand drawn illustrations and lyrics from the rapper. Em will also be penning the book’s introduction and contributing his own narrative throughout. The book will be called The Way I Am and is set for a October 21 release. “Because of where he is from, people think they know where he is at, what kind of person he really is,” said Orion’s Ian Pierce. “This book cuts through all that and gets to the source. It has an edge. It’ll be one of the books of the year.” Several unauthorized books have already been published about the controversial MC, but this project will be the first to have Em’s blessing.

The 208-page book from Dutton Adult, a division of The Penguin Group, is described as a collection of the Detroit rapper’s personal stories, photographs, artwork, never-before-seen lyrics and reflections. The book comes with a DVD featuring unreleased interviews and personal footage of Eminem.

Yesterday on Eminem’s Sirius radio station Shade 45, Eminem took to the satellite airwaves to reveal that his new album will be called Relapse. The announcement came during an on-air party for Slim Shady’s upcoming book The Way I Am. No official word or press release pertaining to Relapse has been given, but following the radio announcement Em did play a new song called “I Need a Relapse.” Eminem also added that Dr. Dre produced the majority of the album because Em wanted to concentrate on the lyrics. As for the release date, Interscope/Aftermath are supposedly planning a “three-headed monster” as 50 Cent put it, with Fiddy’s own Before I Self Destruct out December 9th, followed by Relapse possibly before the end of the year and then Dr. Dre’s long-rumored Detox shortly after that. If Relapse ends up being a reality, it’ll be Marshall Mathers’ first full album since 2004’s Encore.

(Source: Rolling Stones)

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe from BBC Radio 1,  Eminem gave some more details about his next album Relapse. He said that working with Dr. Dre allowed him to concentrate on the processes of songwriting other than production.

“For probably the past five months pretty much straight I’ve been working with Dre. There’s going to be a lot of material, more so than any album that I have had with him producing. I’ve been kind of giving him the driver’s seat. I wanted to try my hand at the producing thing. But one of the best things about being able to work with Dre is obviously his beats are insane. Aside from that I can rap, I can write and not have to worry about what the beat has to sound like and how loud a snare drum is… all those things are taken care of for me so it’s kind of like being spoiled… I feel like a spoiled little rapper.

A release day for the album has not been set, but was rumored to come out shortly after 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct. I would look for it in January or February. He has, however, revealed that one song that will feature will be I’m Having A Relapse.

“It’s a catch-22,” the rapper said over the weekend in Las Vegas, referring to the criticism he received for Curtis, an album that he calls “softer” than Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and The Massacre. “They’ll say, ‘Oh, it’s too aggressive.’ … Soon as you do something that’s a little more lighthearted, and you can play the whole record and feel like you don’t have to cover your kid’s ears, I get penalized for it. So get ready to cover your kid’s ears. Now I’m really interested in seeing how the public responds.” ‘Get Up,’ is just the appetizer,” he said on Saturday, in a separate interview at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. “I got so much more, so many different records to feel out and see what direction I wanna go in next. I’ve been writing this record for a year. I started Before I Self Destruct before I started Curtis. Conceptually, this one has been very well-groomed.”

Unlike Curtis, which had cameos from Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige and Robin Thicke, it doesn’t seem like 50 is too interested in having collaborators stop by the studio this time around. Eminem is the only name he shared. (50 described the record “Norman Bates Motel” as “the return of Slim Shady.”)

“So far, I’ve kinda kept to myself and wrote what I felt was exciting from my perspective, It’s always fun working with Em for me. He’s in a space where he has the luxury of just being able to sit down. The rest of us … me, I do the actual footwork. Dre hasn’t had an album out in seven years. Em — two years. Me — seven, eight months. They send me out to test the waters, and everyone else will jump in the tub. I stay a little more active. Em is by far the biggest rap artist, period. I’m the largest hip-hop touring artist. I travel more places than he travels to be in front of a live audience.”

50 traveled to Detroit to stay with Em twice while recording. One time was over the span of a weekend, and Em encouraged his signee to carry out his idea of shooting a movie to accompany the album.

“He’s like, ‘Go, just do it. If you wanna go, just do it, and we’ll figure everything out after the fact,’ ” 50 recalled. “There were a few technical questions, considering this is my fourth and final actual studio album. My fifth album requirement [to Shady/Aftermath] is a greatest-hits requirement.”

The film “Before I Self Destruct” will be packaged with the album on December 9

The last time HipHopDX spoke to Atlanta emcee Stat Quo, in August 2007 he was shifting gears from promoting the Dr. Dre-produced “Here We Go,” the intended first single from his long-delayed Shady/Aftermath Records debut, Statlanta, to putting his push behind the then recently leaked “G.R.I.T.S. (Girls Raised In The South),” following Interscope’s lack of support for “Here We Go” at radio.

While openly frustrated after having to wait at that point three-and-a-half years for a firm release date for his debut long-player, Stat was still a loyal Shady/Aftermath artist who appeared to be on the verge of finally being able to bask in the glow of his time to shine nationwide. Unfortunately, that moment appeared to be just that, a moment, as after a year of trying to pry himself from his deal with Dre, Stat finalized his release from the label within the past couple months. DX recently spoke with the southern spitter to find out what happened that led to his departure from arguably the most important Hip Hop label of the last decade, and what his plans are now for future releases, as well as the music he recorded over the past five years with the aid of Dr. Dre and Eminem.

Before a planned project entirely produced by DJ Toomp makes its way to the people, as well as a new version of Statlanta, the newly independent artist’s first post-Aftermath project is The South Got Somthin’ To Say. Hitting the net tomorrow (October 23rd), the free mixtape, which features freestyles, as well as new material (including the soul sample driven “The Sun”, derives its title from Andre 3000’s prophetic declaration at the 1995 Source Awards.

“Regardless of what’s going on, considering how well Wayne has done, and ya know, you got T.I. and Luda and these guys are successful, but I feel like it’s still a bias [against southern artists], people still don’t wanna give artists that are coming from the southern region the credit and credibility [they’ve earned]. People been waiting on an album from me for so long I wanna give them some music while I still try to work on the politics behind getting an album out,” said Stat. “I slowed down with doing mixtapes and putting music out…but not no more. I’m gonna put music out at least once a month. I’ma put a whole CD out – at least 13, 12 songs – once a month for the next year.”

Stat can easily crank out that planned CD-a-month, as he records daily in his home studio. But while clearly having modeled his work ethic after his former mentor, his plan to actually release his future recordings as they’re completed stands in stark contrast to his onetime guarantor’s approach to letting the world hear his creations.

“I’m not sittin’ on music no more, man,” Stat declared. “I been around Dr. Dre for so long, and as great as he is one thing I disagree with him about how he handles his business is that he sits on a lot of music. He makes incredible music and it just sits there. And it just gets old. And no one ever gets to hear it. Fuck that. And he don’t even get to enjoy what he made,” Stat continued. “He go to the studio and make all this music, everyday, and never put anything out. I’m not living like that. No. I learned what not to do, and I learned what to do, by dealing with those guys. And that’s one thing that I’m not gonna do. I’m not gonna sit on this music ‘cause people need to hear it period.”

In addition to his own future recordings, Stat plans to release everything he recorded during his stint at Shady/Aftermath.

“All that shit coming out,” he revealed. “Everything that I done rapped on, everybody gonna hear it. You can quote me on that. Everything that I done rapped on, I don’t care who did the beat…Everything that my voice on that I’ve done over these years with them, everybody gonna hear it. I’m just waiting on the right time to put it out…I’m talking about 300, 400 Dre [tracks]. I’m talking about 100 Em beats I’m spittin’ on…”

But what about obvious legal entanglements that could be created by his decision to open up Dr. Dre’s long-rumored vault of unreleased material?

“I don’t give a fuck,” Stat replied. “Listen man, I’m college educated. If they say I can’t rap I’ll go get a job. If that don’t work, I can hit the street. I get money. I ain’t worried about no lawsuit. I ain’t necessarily saying I’m fin to put it in Best Buy and sell it. Nah. It ain’t even about no money for me…with that music. It’s about people need to hear that shit… The world gotta hear what the fuck I was doing with them, because that shit was amazing.”

“Dr. Dre got 40 Detoxes he done made, all killing everything that been came out,” he continued. “What’chu think Eminem do when he get up? He go make music that’s incredible! Probably one of the greatest rappers to fuckin’ live… I learned so much from that dude. But everybody don’t hear all that shit he do. Y’all only hear a portion of it.”

And the long unanswered question has been why hasn’t Dr. Dre released anything new in nearly nine years?

“When it [comes] down to [Dre] actually releasing an album or a project it’s like when Michael Jordan came back out of retirement,” explained Stat. “[He] didn’t give a fuck about his old legacy because he was like ‘I’m Jordan anyway,’ it don’t matter. Dre is like, ‘Damn, this shit might…’ This my opinion, [he was like] what I do [now] might deteriorate what I’ve done, so I don’t wanna fuck my name up. I gotta hold up. He’s very apprehensive when it comes to putting out music. That’s why he creates all this music and no one ever gets to hear it. I got tired of that. I got tired of going to the studio [in the] A.M. and staying in that bitch all night long making songs. And nobody hearing this shit. We just ridin’ in our cars to this great shit. I got sick of that.”

Stat explained in detail how that sickness, along with a slew of other offensive occurrences, led to his decision to leave his label home for the past five years on “Dear Summer Pt. 2”. In that breakdown Stat referenced an unreleased Eminem production entitled “Dance On It” saying, “What a song, Em, 50 and Dre, Stat Quo, Cashis, also featuring Jay…Z.” However, Stat clarified to DX that the Eminem and Jay-Z collaboration was in fact not “Dance On It,” but another song, one that may make its way to the buying public very soon.

“The song that featured Jay-Z is a song that Em’s putting on his album called ‘My Syllielable” – it’s like ‘my syllable,’ [only] he flipped it,” said Stat. “They probably have since taken Stat Quo off of that record now that I’m not affiliated with the label.”

“Dance On It,” Stat further clarified, was actually the song that ironically initiated the end of his working relationship with Eminem. Stat explained that Eminem had written the hook for the song, sent it to him, “And [then] he was like, ‘Man, it’s a smash.’ I thought it was a smash, but I was still reluctant about it. And then when I got [back] to L.A. I made ‘Here We Go.’”

Stat subsequently began leaning towards the Dr. Dre-produced “Here We Go” as his personal choice for the jump-off joint for Statlanta and its planned summer ’07 release.

“But before he got [to L.A.] me and Em’s last conversation was ‘Dance On It’ was gonna be the [single],” said Stat. “So we had a meeting, it was me, Dre, Em, and Paul [Rosenberg of Shady Records]. So we sitting in there and we trying to figure out the [single]. And Em’s like, ‘Dance On It.’ And what made Em upset is because I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ But from Em’s standpoint, our last conversation was this was the song. But, I had made ‘Here We Go,’ and I thought [it should be the single].”

“And I made a joke,” Stat continued, “which I ain’t even gon’ get into that. But I had made a joke in that meeting that made Em upset. And from that point on, me and his relationship was strained. It was totally different. At that point for real [it was like] he had just said fuck it, I’m done. Even though [after my apology] it was [seemingly] all forgiven, [and] he had said it was all good, [but] it was never all good at that point.”

Following Eminem’s decision to remove himself from Stat’s project, a subsequent, and unexplained, decision made by Dr. Dre to not appear in Stat’s video for “Here We Go,” and the aforementioned lack of support for the single by parent label, Interscope, Stat began seeking his release from the label.

Now in hindsight Stat holds both Interscope’s greed and Dr. Dre’s unyielding personal critiques of his creations as partial culprits behind his inability to release an album during his five-year tenure with Shady/Aftermath.

“I’ma quote Jimmy Iovine,” Stat began. “It’s like the New England Patriots, imagine if they never played on Sunday and they just practiced all through the week. I was in the studio and Jimmy was there, and Jimmy said, ‘This like the greatest practice team of all time.’ ‘Cause ain’t shit came out.” But,” he continued. “You also got the heads of the label saying, ‘We want an Eminem album. We want a Dr. Dre album. We want another 50 Cent record. This is what we need for our stockholders. We need this money before the end of the fiscal year. They not concerned about a Stat Quo album. They’re not concerned about anybody that’s under the main people. They want the big bucks. They’d rather invest their money into a sure thing. That’s why when you look at Shady/Aftermath and look at the other artists they’re not coming out no time soon, until Em, Dre and 50 come [first].”

But contrary to any interpretation of the above comments, Stat made clear in his discussion with DX that he’s not a disgruntled former employee looking to enact revenge against his former employer by revealing some of the inner workings at the house that Dr. Dre built.

“I had stayed down,” Stat reminded. “I did everything [asked of me]. I rode when it was time to ride. And I appreciate everything that both of those guys has done for me. So me shittin’ on them publicly is not really an option for me. Musically – forget what you think about another person, anybody – [Dr. Dre’s] a genius, man. Eminem, these muthafuckas are geniuses, man. Like, musically what they do…you’re not gonna find a greater two. And for me to actually be a part of that situation and to learn from them was an honor. No it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, but it was an honor. And y’all gonna see and hear the shit we did, ‘cause it’s incredible.”

Is Eminem’s Relapse coming out two days before Christmas? According to a listing that popped up on Amazon.com, Slim Shady’s return after a four-year hiatus may be dropping December 23rd. Interscope hasn’t released official word about Relapse’s release date, and Amazon has altered the listing to the vague “TBD” since news of the pre-order page spread. In the past, however, Amazon has proven to be a trustworthy oracle regarding albums that were not yet announced. In the past year, both the Raconteurs’ surprise release of Consolers of the Lonely and Rivers Cuomo’s Alone II were revealed via Amazon pre-order pages rather than traditional press releases. Plus, Em himself hinted that Relapse could be out before the end of the year, and two days before the most marketable day of the year makes more sense from a sales standpoint than a post-Christmas release.

50 Cent is the latest artist confirmed to perform on next month’s Total Finale Live, joining Beyoncé on the two-hour special. And when you’ve got a lineup that big, there’s only one man you can call to host it all: Carson Daly.

Total Finale Live will air Sunday, November 16 at 8pm ET. In addition to the performances, fans can expect in-studio appearances from a host of TRL faves, including Ludacris, Mariah Carey, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Taylor Swift, Fred Durst and members of Good Charlotte and Korn. Former TRL VJs Dave Holmes, Jesse Camp, La La Vasquez and Hilarie Burton will also be on hand for the festivities (a show this big needs lots of hosts, after all).

Though the TRL finale is still weeks away, the celebration of the show’s history is already revving up. Throughout the course of the month, MTV.com and MTV News will feature special retrospective countdowns and give fans a look back at the best moments from the show’s decade-long run.

And on the show’s official site, TRL.MTV.com, viewers can check out video highlights, photo galleries of past guests and a decade’s worth of pictures taken in the famed TRL photo booth. On November 16, the site will also feature behind-the-scenes coverage of the event, plus red-carpet photos from the Total Finale Live preshow.

Unfortunate news for fans of the rapper Ice Cube, but great news for the fans of actor Ice Cube.

He is gearing up to write and produce a forthcoming US television comedy show.

The rap star will mastermind the buddy cop comedy for television network NBC. Although he is not slated to star in the show, it is expected that he will make some guest appearances on the program, and perhaps even write the opening credits theme song, reports Variety.

The project is not yet titled, and is expected to premiere in 2009.

Just a minor setback in the Aftermath camp, “Before I Self Destruct” will get pushed back one week from December 9th to December 16th. Possibly to create a larger gap between the Kanye West west album release and 50′s release so album sales can die off from “808′s and Heartbreaks”.

50′s album is said to features production from Dr. Dre, Eminem, Scott Storch, Sha Money XL and Ty Fyffe, Play-N-Skillz, J. R. Rotem and Timbaland.

“Before I Self Destruct”, the movie and the album, will be released on Dec 16th.

UPDATE (11/16): The Album will now be released ‘Early 2008′. Full Story HERE.

Warren G Arrested

Warren G has been arrested in Los Angeles on a drug charge after police pulled over the car he was riding in.

Police say the 35-year-old rapper was arrested early Sunday after being pulled over for a red light violation. Officer Karen Smith says marijuana was found in the vehicle.

Warren G and the driver, Ryan Butler, were booked for investigation of possession of a controlled substance. They each posted $20,000 bail and were released.

Now G’s reps are saying he was a passenger in the vehicle and was asleep when they were pulled over, according to TMZ.com.

“They were in the Hollywood area for Kanye’s party. He was a passenger asleep in the front seat when the car was pulled over. They charged him because he didn’t debrief. Whatever was found wasn’t his, it was in the car,” said the statement.

The first single and video, Get Up, from Before I Self Destruct was released yesterday.

Eminem is unlikely to release his forthcoming new album, Relapse, before the end of 2008, claims an anonymous record company “insider.”

According to the New York Post, despite U.K. and U.S. retail websites listing the album as set for a December release, Relapse is likely to be released early next year.

“Eminem…is completely obsessive-compulsive about this album,” the source is quoted as saying. “There’s a 50/50 chance it will be done by the end of this year, but most likely it’ll be the first quarter of next year.”

Additional evidence of a 2009 release, 50 Cent’s ‘Before I Self Destruct’ release date was pushed back a week to December 16th, and I’m sure that Interscope wants album sales to die down before releasing a competing album. My best guess to Eminem’s Relapse release date would be late January/early February.

“Before I Self Destruct” has reportedly been pushed back again. The album move comes as 50 Cent was rushing to get his album finished for a December release. With the deadline approaching to secure advertising and retail placement for the album, the decision was made to move to a date in early 2009.

According to a statement from Interscope records, the rapper was feeling rushed to meet the initial release date of December 16, so a decision was made to push it back to early next year.

Despite all of this, and for further confusion, 50 was at UFC 91 last night in Las Vegas and in a quick interview with Joe Rogan, 50 Cent still claims the album will be released on December 9th.

More updates on the situation as it become available on WestCoastFlow.com

When Universal Music Group pushed highly anticipated albums from U2, Dr. Dre, Eminem and 50 Cent from the fourth quarter 2008 to 2009, it seemed like a final stake in the heart of music retail this year. But Interscope-Geffen-A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine refuses to apologize for the decision, which he says he made to ensure the projects would be the best they could be.

Here’s an except of the interview conducted by Billboard

So, let’s move from a record that is coming out this year to some that aren’t, like U2 and Eminem.

I met with the guys in U2, and they say to me, ‘You know what? This album needs two more songs, and it will be exactly what we have in mind.’ I go there and I listen, and I agreed with them. It’s a great record, but it deserves the time. Labels need to work with artists to help them achieve their best work, not to jam records out that are half-baked or three-quarters baked.

I’ll tell you about Eminem. We only tried to put him out this year to replace Dr. Dre, but we got into a quagmire. Eminem was always coming next year. But what happened was, I lost Dr. Dre to Eminem. Dre had to stop making his album to finish Eminem’s album. Eminem hit a streak, and when a guy like Eminem gets on fire, you stop everything. That’s how we lost Dre.

So what’s the status of Dre’s record?

Dre’s going back in in January. He’ll be finished with Eminem by then, and he’ll finish his album.

There’s a rumor in the retail world that Eminem might be an exclusive as well.

No. There’s no truth to that.

What parts of your business are growing?

Well, our Pussycat Dolls tour has sold 150,000 of 160,000 tickets, with eight weeks to go until the tour. That’s big. Other than Miley Cyrus, I don’t know a label that has something like that. We’re doing really, really well with licensing. Our 360 deals are working. We have that with Lady GaGa. Dr. Dre’s headphones are doing really, really, really well. It’s a fabulous product. We’re building a lot there. We’re building out some of our management stuff.

Months ago, Dre said in a perfect world, he would like his album out by the end of 2008, and to nobody’s surprise the album was delayed yet again. By the looks of it now, Eminems album will be finished in January, and with about 2 months to promote it, we’ll see it released sometime in late February/early March. Assuming Dre stays on track with Detox after completing Eminem’s album, WestCoastFlow.com predicts an early Summer release of Detox followed by an Up In Smoke 2 Tour, which Bishop Lamont has already confirmed.

WestCoastFlow.com Aftermath calander prediction :

January 2009: 50 Cent releases “Before I Self Destruct”

March 2009: Eminem releases “Relapse”

A track that will presumably be on Eminem’s upcoming album Relapse was leaked online yesterday. The track titled Number One is mainly piano driven which is signature as of late for Dr. Dre.  The first and last verses were written for Dre by Eminem, who raps them in place of Dre in addition to a verse of his own. The link to listen to the track is below, but be warned, the quality is low and the track has relentless DJ shout outs. But here it is nonetheless.

Number One by Eminem

After over a year drought of Dr. Dre productions, we have been blessed with two production released on the same day. The first, formerly titled “Number One” an unfinished version of the newly released “Crack A Bottle”. It features 50 Cent and a rare verse from Dr. Dre. Compared to the leaked incomplete version, “Number One”, “Crack A Bottle” seems a bit more polished , and the CD quality audio vs. the Bootleg DJ-Shout-Out-Version probably helped.
