A track that featured Bishop Lamont, 50 Cent & a hook by R. Kelly has been leaked on the internet. The track could be the first listen to an album 10 years in the making, Detox.  Interscope and Dr. Dre have not commented on the leak but sources close to Dre said that he is angry that the track leaked so early mainly because it’s not mixed and mastered.

The track doesn’t exactly have a signature Dre sound to it, and is not what you would expected to hear.  The track doesn’t have a vibe of a West Coast or a gangster rap sound. I come away after listening to it somewhat disappointed. I take it as a solid beat, that has a hint of R&B but it certainly doesn’t make the statement I was hoping for from the first potential Detox track.

This marks the third Dr. Dre produced track to hit the web in the past three days.

[UPDATE, 1/13/09]

In an interview with 50 Cent yesterday, the rapper says that the track that was leaked was recorded over 2 years ago. I’d assume that the track won’t be a part of Detox with the leak coming so far in advance of the album.

Months ago, Dre said in a perfect world, he would like his album out by the end of 2008, and to nobody’s surprise the album was delayed yet again. By the looks of it now, Eminems album will be finished in January, and with about 2 months to promote it, we’ll see it released sometime in late February/early March. Assuming Dre stays on track with Detox after completing Eminem’s album, WestCoastFlow.com predicts an early Summer release of Detox followed by an Up In Smoke 2 Tour, which Bishop Lamont has already confirmed.

WestCoastFlow.com Aftermath calander prediction :

January 2009: 50 Cent releases “Before I Self Destruct”

March 2009: Eminem releases “Relapse”

June 2009: Dr. Dre releases Detox

July 2009: Up In Smoke 2 Tour

Eminem is unlikely to release his forthcoming new album, Relapse, before the end of 2008, claims an anonymous record company “insider.”

According to the New York Post, despite U.K. and U.S. retail websites listing the album as set for a December release, Relapse is likely to be released early next year.

“Eminem…is completely obsessive-compulsive about this album,” the source is quoted as saying. “There’s a 50/50 chance it will be done by the end of this year, but most likely it’ll be the first quarter of next year.”

NME

Additional evidence of a 2009 release, 50 Cent’s ‘Before I Self Destruct’ release date was pushed back a week to December 16th, and I’m sure that Interscope wants album sales to die down before releasing a competing album. My best guess to Eminem’s Relapse release date would be late January/early February.

Is Eminem’s Relapse coming out two days before Christmas? According to a listing that popped up on Amazon.com, Slim Shady’s return after a four-year hiatus may be dropping December 23rd. Interscope hasn’t released official word about Relapse’s release date, and Amazon has altered the listing to the vague “TBD” since news of the pre-order page spread. In the past, however, Amazon has proven to be a trustworthy oracle regarding albums that were not yet announced. In the past year, both the Raconteurs’ surprise release of Consolers of the Lonely and Rivers Cuomo’s Alone II were revealed via Amazon pre-order pages rather than traditional press releases. Plus, Em himself hinted that Relapse could be out before the end of the year, and two days before the most marketable day of the year makes more sense from a sales standpoint than a post-Christmas release.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe from BBC Radio 1,  Eminem gave some more details about his next album Relapse. He said that working with Dr. Dre allowed him to concentrate on the processes of songwriting other than production.

“For probably the past five months pretty much straight I’ve been working with Dre. There’s going to be a lot of material, more so than any album that I have had with him producing. I’ve been kind of giving him the driver’s seat. I wanted to try my hand at the producing thing. But one of the best things about being able to work with Dre is obviously his beats are insane. Aside from that I can rap, I can write and not have to worry about what the beat has to sound like and how loud a snare drum is… all those things are taken care of for me so it’s kind of like being spoiled… I feel like a spoiled little rapper.

A release day for the album has not been set, but was rumored to come out shortly after 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct. I would look for it in January or February. He has, however, revealed that one song that will feature will be I’m Having A Relapse.

From Aftermath Music:

50 Cent exploded onto the music scene with his blockbuster debut Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. Now he’s set to deliver his fourth major label album, Before I Self Destruct (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope), on December 9, 2008.

For the explosive Before I Self Destruct, 50 Cent returned to working closely with Dr. Dre and Eminem as he did on his first album. But Before I Self Destruct is more than an album. The package also includes a DVD with an original, gritty, feature-length movie he wrote, directed and starred in. 50 Cent proves with Before I Self Destruct that no one on the hip-hop scene is more aggressive about putting the street on stage.

With Dr. Dre and Eminem each producing and guesting on tracks, and led by the club-friendly first single, “Get Up,” produced by Scott Storch, Before I Self Destruct is darker and harder than last year’s Curtis. 50 Cent wrote much of the album while he, as Curtis Jackson, was also penning the 90-minute film of the same name that would be his directorial debut.

The film Before I Self Destruct is a coming of age story about an inner city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, he finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence (played by Jackson) is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother.

“My film captures the harsh realities that reflect so many communities today. There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city,” states 50 Cent. “I made the film for both groups.”

These updates seem to trickle in a couple times a month, but here is the latest on what Bishop Lamont has to say about the upcoming projects.

“As far as my album, we’re finishing it while working on Detox” Bishop continued. “So it’s not just

up to Dre, people don’t understand it’s a whole company that makes decisions. The people at the top don’t give a fuck about the music, they give a fuck about the money. And they ask what’s more important: to bring out a new artist and spent more money or put out Dr. Dre and make a whole bunch of money!”

“Nobody gets to say this, I’m gonna snitch. The man is getting piano lessons from Burt Bacharach and he’s reinterpreting Frederic Chopin symphony stuff. It’s crazy, he’s lost his mind. He’s got like 400 records. As a matter of a fact I was there for like four hours, and I think I only heard maybe 60 songs. This man’s got like six or seven Detox records if he wants, it’s just crazy.” “Another cool thing too that some of y’all don’t know, Snoop is now back in the studio with Dr. Dre. It’s about to get crazy!

Get Up is 50 Cent’s first single off Before I Self Destruct! The production for the song is handled by Scott Storch, who provided other tracks for 50 such as Just a Lil’ Bit and Candy Shop. A solid first single which leaves me excited to see what else the album has in store for us.

Often times an artist promises a release date for an album, and the promise is broken, but the one true event that can confirm to fans that an album is within sight is a new single being released. This leaves me with confidence that Before I Self Destruct will be released in December as promised.

A statement by 50 Cent confirms that multiple tracks off the album will be produced by Dr. Dre.

“Dre sent over a bunch of beats, and we’re just going through them all, picking out who wants what. We already finished one joint and just started vocals on another. It’s gonna blow you away, I guarantee.”
